What is Yoga? The
Complete Ancient Science

The word Yoga (योग) comes from the Sanskrit root "Yuj" meaning "to unite" or "to yoke." Yoga is the ancient Indian science of creating perfect union between body, mind, breath, and spirit — resulting in complete physical health, mental clarity, emotional stability, and spiritual freedom.

Unlike modern gym-style "yoga" focused only on flexibility, traditional yoga is a comprehensive healing science with over 100 distinct branches and approaches. Each branch offers a unique path suited to different temperaments, goals, and stages of life.

At Satyam Yogashramam, we teach and practise multiple yoga traditions, with our specialty being Kriya Yoga — the most advanced and powerful of all yoga paths for healing and self-realisation.

🌟
5,000+ Year Old Science — The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali systematised these teachings around 400 CE, but their roots go back to the earliest Vedic civilisation, practised in forest ashrams exactly like ours.

Major Types of Yoga &
Their Healing Powers

Each yoga type works through a different primary faculty of the human being — body, breath, mind, emotions, intellect, action, or energy.

Kriya Yoga
क्रिया योग · Our Speciality
⭐ Satyam Ashramam Specialty

The most advanced and scientifically complete yoga path. Kriya means "action" or "technique" — it is a precise set of breath, mantra, mudra, and meditation kriyas that accelerate spiritual evolution and heal the body by controlling prana (life energy). Taught by Mahavatar Babaji and spread by Paramahansa Yogananda.

  • Heals diseases at the root energy level — body heals from within
  • Controls the autonomic nervous system — heart rate, digestion, immunity
  • Activates all 7 chakras systematically and safely
  • Reverses cellular aging and degeneration
  • Produces rapid states of deep healing meditation
  • Specifically treats: spine problems, brain disorders, hormonal issues
🧘
Hatha Yoga
हठ योग · The Physical Foundation

The most widely practised yoga worldwide. "Ha" = Sun (prana), "Tha" = Moon (apana). Hatha balances the solar and lunar energies through physical postures (asanas), breathing (pranayama), locks (bandhas), and cleansing (kriyas).

  • Strengthens spine, joints, muscles, and all body systems
  • Improves flexibility, balance, posture, and coordination
  • Regulates hormones and balances nervous system
  • Best for: joint pain, spine problems, obesity, diabetes
Available at Satyam Ashramam
👁️
Raja Yoga
राज योग · The Royal Path

Patanjali's "Ashtanga" or eight-limbed path — the complete science of mind mastery. Raja means "king" — this path makes you the master of your own mind. The eight limbs include Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana (meditation), and Samadhi.

  • Mastery over thoughts, emotions, and mental patterns
  • Eliminates stress, anxiety, and depression at the root
  • Develops extraordinary concentration and clarity
  • Best for: mental disorders, insomnia, chronic stress
Available at Satyam Ashramam

Bhakti Yoga
भक्ति योग · The Path of Devotion

The yoga of love, devotion, and surrender. Bhakti dissolves the ego through pure love — for God, for nature, for humanity. It works directly on the heart chakra (Anahata), activating the thymus gland and flooding the body with healing neurochemicals like oxytocin and serotonin.

  • Heals emotional wounds, trauma, grief, and loneliness
  • Boosts immune function through love-induced neurochemicals
  • Reduces cortisol and activates the parasympathetic system
  • Best for: cancer support, depression, heart disease

Jnana Yoga
ज्ञान योग · The Path of Wisdom

The yoga of self-inquiry, intellectual discernment, and wisdom. Jnana uses the mind to transcend the mind — through deep study, philosophical inquiry, and the continuous question "Who am I?" It activates the Ajna (third eye) and Sahasrara (crown) chakras most powerfully.

  • Dissolves false beliefs and mental conditioning causing disease
  • Develops extraordinary wisdom and discrimination (Viveka)
  • Activates higher brain functions and intuition
  • Best for: neurological conditions, mental disorders

Karma Yoga
कर्म योग · The Path of Action

The yoga of selfless action and service. Karma Yoga teaches you to act without attachment to results — performing every action as an offering. This is the yoga most directly expressed through our NGO's social service work — free treatment, health camps, and medicinal plant distribution.

  • Dissolves ego and selfish conditioning that creates disease
  • Service activates healing neurochemicals and purpose hormones
  • Reduces the stress of self-centered thinking
  • Best for: psychosomatic diseases, anxiety, depression

Kundalini Yoga
कुण्डलिनी योग · Serpent Power

The yoga of awakening the dormant Kundalini energy coiled at the base of the spine (Muladhara). When awakened through specific kriyas, breathing, and bandhas, this energy rises through all 7 chakras, activating their corresponding organs and healing the entire body. Deeply connected to Kriya Yoga.

  • Awakens dormant healing energy in the spine
  • Activates all 7 chakras and their corresponding organs
  • Powerful treatment for chronic diseases and energy deficiency
  • Best for: hormonal disorders, chronic fatigue, spinal diseases
Advanced — supervised practice only
🎵
Mantra Yoga
मंत्र योग · Sound Science

The yoga of sacred sound vibration. Sanskrit mantras are not merely words — they are precise sound frequencies that create measurable vibrations in the body. Each chakra responds to its specific seed mantra (Beej Mantra). Mantras activate healing through sound therapy, cymatics, and neural entrainment.

  • OM mantra reduces heart rate, BP, and cortisol measurably
  • Seed mantras directly stimulate corresponding chakra organs
  • Group chanting creates coherent bio-energetic healing fields
  • Best for: anxiety, depression, hypertension, pain management

Tantra Yoga
तंत्र योग · The Science of Energy

Often misunderstood, Tantra is the comprehensive science of energy — working with all forms of life energy including breath, sound, movement, and consciousness. It uses the body as a tool for spiritual liberation rather than viewing it as an obstacle. Our Moksha Therapy draws on Tantric principles.

  • Works with the body's five sheaths (Pancha Kosha) for complete healing
  • Energy management for chronic disease and vitality restoration
  • Integration of shadow aspects for psychological healing
  • Best for: chronic disease, reproductive disorders, energy blockages

🪘
Nada Yoga
नाद योग · Cosmic Sound Yoga

The yoga of cosmic sound — listening to the inner sounds of the body and universe. Nada Yoga includes listening to music, nature sounds, and eventually the internal Anahata Nada (unstruck sound). The forest itself is our Nada Yoga teacher — birds, wind, water, and rustling leaves are healing vibrations.

  • Nature sounds reduce cortisol and activate parasympathetic system
  • Treats tinnitus, hearing disorders, and auditory processing issues
  • Deep relaxation and sleep improvement
  • Best for: stress, insomnia, anxiety, hearing problems
Natural in our Kawal Forest setting
🌬️
Swara Yoga
स्वर योग · Breath Rhythm Science

The ancient science of breath rhythms — specifically which nostril dominates at different times and how this affects health, decision-making, and the body's organ systems. Swara Yoga maps the entire body's physiological cycles to breath patterns, allowing precise health management.

  • Regulates brain hemisphere dominance for optimal health
  • Aligns physiological cycles with natural rhythms
  • Powerful for respiratory diseases and allergies
  • Best for: asthma, sinus disorders, mental imbalance
Integrated in our Pranayama sessions
🌙
Yoga Nidra
योग निद्रा · Yogic Sleep

Often called the most healing yoga practice, Yoga Nidra induces a state between sleep and waking — where the brain is in theta wave state, the body undergoes maximum regeneration, the immune system activates fully, and deep-seated emotional and physical tensions dissolve completely.

  • 60 minutes = 4 hours of sleep in terms of body repair
  • Maximally activates immune system repair mechanisms
  • Treats PTSD, trauma, chronic pain, and insomnia
  • Best for: cancer recovery, post-surgery healing, burnout

Kriya Yoga — The Science
of Complete Healing

Kriya Yoga is our most specialised, most powerful, and most transformative offering. It is the reason thousands of patients — many who had given up hope — have found complete healing at Satyam Yogashramam.

Kriya Yoga practice at Satyam Yogashramam in Kawal Forest

The Ancient Technology
of Rapid Healing

Kriya Yoga is a sophisticated set of energy management techniques that work directly on the Prana (life force) flowing through the body's 72,000 Nadis (energy channels) and 7 chakras. By controlling and directing Prana consciously, Kriya practitioners can accelerate the body's natural healing rate dramatically.

In scientific terms, Kriya Yoga works through the vagus nerve — the body's primary healing pathway — activating the parasympathetic "rest and heal" state, reducing inflammatory cytokines, enhancing T-cell activity, and triggering the body's deep self-repair mechanisms.

1
Pranayama Kriyas
Precise rhythmic breathing techniques (Nadi Shodhana, Kapalabhati, Bhramari, Surya Bhedana) that purify energy channels and oxygenate every cell. Each technique targets specific diseases and organ systems.
2
Mudra & Bandha
Sacred hand gestures (Mudras) and energy locks (Bandhas — Mula, Uddiyana, Jalandhara) that redirect prana upward through the chakras, activating their corresponding organs and immune glands.
3
Mantra Chanting
Specific seed mantras (Beej Mantras) for each chakra create precise vibrational frequencies in corresponding organ systems, stimulating self-healing through resonance.
4
Dharana & Dhyana
Concentrated focus (Dharana) and deep meditation (Dhyana) that activate the body's neuroplasticity, healing the brain's patterns of disease and establishing new healing pathways at the cellular level.

What Kriya Yoga Does to Your Body

🫀
Heart & Circulation
Reduces resting heart rate, lowers blood pressure, improves heart rate variability (HRV) — a key marker of health and immunity. Regular practice reverses early-stage cardiovascular disease.
🧠
Brain & Nervous System
Activates the vagus nerve — the body's primary healing nerve. Increases GABA, serotonin, and BDNF (brain growth factor). Treats depression, anxiety, and neurological conditions.
🛡️
Immune System Boost
Increases Natural Killer (NK) cell activity, T-lymphocyte count, and immunoglobulin A (IgA). Reduces inflammatory cytokines. Cancer patients show measurably improved immune function.
🌡️
Inflammation Reduction
Significantly reduces C-reactive protein (CRP) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) — the primary markers of systemic inflammation that underlies almost all chronic diseases.
🔬
Cellular Healing
Activates autophagy (cellular self-cleaning), increases telomerase activity (anti-aging), protects DNA from oxidative damage. Slows and partially reverses cellular aging.
😴
Sleep & Recovery
Dramatically improves sleep quality, increases deep sleep duration, boosts melatonin production. Sleep is the body's primary healing window — Kriya Yoga maximises it.
💉
Hormonal Balance
Reduces cortisol (stress hormone), increases DHEA (regenerative hormone), balances thyroid function, normalises insulin sensitivity. Treats diabetes and hormonal disorders.
🌬️
Respiratory Power
Increases lung capacity, strengthens diaphragm, improves oxygen exchange at cellular level. Measurably treats asthma, bronchitis, COPD, and respiratory allergies.
